Darrell Houle
User Experience Lead
Darrell is the User Experience Lead at Communicopia. His audience research and interaction design skills ensure the insights from our vision work are baked into the heart of new digital experiences.
Over his career, Darrell has had the opportunity to delve into most aspects of the web development process. Darrell has consulted and designed the interactions for clients such as TckTckTck, Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation, BC Hydro, United Nations Foundation, Nothing But Nets, Make Poverty History Canada, UNICEF Canada, Common Ground’s 100,000 Homes Campaign and this website.
Darrell began building websites on the newly created Internet back in 1993. At that time images had just began showing up on websites and blinking text, usually red, was the hottest visual effect. Since then, he's held senior positions in three web development firms, an Internet start-up, and created countless educational, private, public, environmental, and social change websites. He's played key roles in a number of award-winning sites including Best Alberta Town website, Taschen's 1000 Best Websites, Alberta New Media Honorable Mention, a 2007 Webby Award, 2010 Webby Award Nomination, and the Best Website at Convio Innovation Awards.
Although Darrell started out as a programmer he's branched into interaction design and project management. Darrell holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Native Studies with Distinction (focus in Community-based research), and a diploma in programming from the University of Alberta.
